Bazarduzu climbing tour is a true mountain adventure for those who want to discover Azerbaijan from a completely different side.

The route starts in Baku and passes through the legendary high-mountain village of Khinalig, located among the rugged peaks of the Caucasus.

From here, we will travel higher into the mountains by 4x4 vehicles and then continue on foot towards the base camp.

Overnight camping at an altitude of 3,250 meters will be a special part of the journey and will allow you to experience the atmosphere of a real mountaineering camp.

Before the main climb, an acclimatization hike up to 3,500 meters is planned to help the body adjust to the altitude and prepare for the ascent ahead.

The next day, a long climb awaits us to Bazarduzu at an altitude of 4,466 meters above sea level.

Tour Itinerary

Khinalig is one of the most impressive high-mountain settlements in Azerbaijan, located at an altitude of approximately 2,350 meters above sea level.
The village is far from major cities and, thanks to its isolated location, has preserved its traditional way of life and distinctive architecture.
Stone houses, narrow streets and the surrounding mountain slopes create a special atmosphere in a place with a history that goes back many centuries.
Here, you can see how closely the lives of local people are connected with the harsh nature of the Greater Caucasus.
After the journey from Baku, Khinalig will become the starting point of our mountain route and will give us a chance to briefly experience life in the highlands of Azerbaijan.
Ahead of us are even higher altitudes, open mountain landscapes and the route towards the foot of Bazarduzu.

After leaving Khinalig, we will get into 4x4 vehicles and travel along a mountain road to an altitude of around 2,800 meters.
From there, the hiking section of the route begins and takes us to the Bazarduzu base camp at an altitude of 3,250 meters.
After arrival, there will be time to rest and have lunch before continuing with the program.
We will then set up the tents and begin an acclimatization hike to an altitude of 3,500 meters.
This stage is an important part of the preparation for the climb and allows the body to gradually adjust to the thinner mountain air.
After returning to the camp, dinner awaits us, followed by a peaceful evening surrounded by high mountains and overnight camping.
At this point, a regular tour in Azerbaijan becomes a true mountain journey with an overnight stay far from the noise and activity of the city.

The early morning will begin with breakfast, after which we will set off towards the main goal of the journey — the summit of Bazarduzu.
A long ascent of around 5–6 hours lies ahead, so this stage requires good physical fitness and endurance.
As we gain altitude, the surrounding landscape becomes more impressive, while the mountain ranges open up from new viewpoints.

Special mountaineering experience is usually not required for the summer route, as technical equipment such as ropes and crampons is not normally used as part of the standard program. However, participants need good physical fitness and experience with long hikes. The summit day includes a long ascent to an altitude of more than 4,000 meters and requires endurance, a steady pace and readiness for physical exertion.

Bazarduzu is located near the state border, so the necessary permits must be arranged in advance. We organize the required permits from the State Border Service, registration and other mandatory procedures. To process the documents, you need to provide your passport details in advance, at least 8 days before the tour.

The main climbing season is from June to September, when weather conditions are usually most suitable for a mountain route. Climbs during the off-season and winter are possible upon request, but they require suitable experience, preparation and equipment.

The program includes a gradual increase in altitude before the main climb. The route includes ascents to intermediate elevations and an overnight stay in a high-mountain camp at around 3,250 meters. Mountain guides monitor the condition of the participants and the pace of the group. If you feel unwell, you should inform the guide immediately.

Bazarduzu reaches 4,466 meters above sea level and is the highest peak in Azerbaijan. The mountain is located in the eastern part of the Greater Caucasus, near the state border with Russia. The route to the summit passes through Khinalig and Shahdag National Park.

Depending on the selected program, accommodation may be arranged in two different places. The first night is spent in a guesthouse in Khinalig, while the second night is spent at a tent camp at an altitude of around 3,250 meters. Please note that accommodation in the Khinalig guesthouse is charged separately. The tent and personal hiking equipment are also not included in the standard tour price.

Acclimatization helps the body gradually adapt to increasing altitude before the main climb. As part of the program, an additional hike to around 2,783 meters above Khinalig is planned, after which the route continues to higher elevations. A gradual increase in altitude helps participants prepare better for the physical demands of the climb.

Zafar Peak is an additional summit located near the Bazarduzu route. Visiting it is not a mandatory part of the program and may be offered to the group during the tour. The possibility of climbing it depends on weather conditions, the condition of the route and the physical fitness of the participants.

The price does not include accommodation in the Khinalig guesthouse, entrance tickets to Shahdag National Park, tents, sleeping mats, personal hiking and mountaineering equipment, as well as food and drinks, unless they are specifically mentioned in the program.
